Andrei Schvab

Andrei Schvab graduated in 2008 his Bachelor in Human Geography at the University of Bucharest with a thesis on territorial disparities and territorial cohesion, finishing third out of 130 candidates from his specialization. Also at the beginning of 2008, while he was still an undergraduate, following a competition was hired at CICADIT research centre as an assistant researcher. In 2009 he completed his Masters Degree focusing on the relation between polycentric development and the reduction of territorial disparities. Soon after he was admitted at the Geographical Doctoral School that he graduated in 2012 with a PhD thesis focused upon the relations between the Complexity theory, adaptation and structuring of functional areas (metropolitan areas, influence areas). The PhD thesis was successfully defended being awarded with excellent distinction (the former equivalent of summa cum laude).
His academic focus is on human geography, in general, and on economic geography, in particular, in relation with the changes in the structure and function on different territories. I am interested in the dynamic of relations between a development pole (or a structuring axis) and its support area (city region, metropolitan region or influence area).
Since graduation he is a member in two ESPON projects (GROSSE and SIESTA) and more than 5 national research projects all of them focusing on regional and local development. Also he was part of diverse groups of authors that presented 24 scientific communications, more than half being held at international conferences.
